Question 1

What is hard water and how do I know if I have it?

Accepted Answer

Hard water contains dissolved minerals, usually calcium and magnesium. Common signs include white scale on fixtures, spots on glassware, soap that does not lather well, dry-feeling skin or hair, and buildup around appliances. Those signs are a starting point, not a diagnosis. A water review can confirm the next reasonable step.

Question 2

Water softener vs salt-free conditioner: what's the difference?

Accepted Answer

A softener removes hardness minerals. A salt-free conditioner changes how minerals behave, but does not remove them. A softener is the stronger fit when reducing hard-water scale is the goal. A salt-free conditioner may fit a home that wants a lower-maintenance approach, but it does not produce the same soft-water result. The right choice depends on the home and goal.

Question 3

City water vs well water: what changes?

Accepted Answer

City water and private well water require different starting points. For city water, start with the municipal supplier and what you notice at home. For a private well, do not select treatment from symptoms alone. Current lab results or a confirmed field test are required before a well-water recommendation.

Question 4

Do I need a water test before choosing a system?

Accepted Answer

City-water concerns can often start with a detailed water review. Private wells require current test results or a confirmed field test before a firm recommendation. For city water, we start with the serving utility, the concerns you notice, the home setup, and any available current information. For private wells, a water-treatment system is not selected from symptoms or a town name. Current, usable results or a qualified field evaluation should guide the treatment plan.

Question 5

Can reverse osmosis be added to a whole-home system?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Tank and tankless RO can be added as a separate dedicated drinking-water point at the kitchen. RO is normally an add-on, not a replacement for source-matched whole-home treatment. Tankless models need suitable under-sink space and electrical access. Final scope depends on available plumbing, drain routing, outlet access, and the selected equipment.

Question 6

What can change the installed price?

Accepted Answer

Access, plumbing conditions, drains, power, counter material, and other site-specific facts can affect the final written scope. We document the equipment, home conditions, and installation requirements before work begins. Shutoff condition, pipe material, drain routing, electrical needs, countertop drilling, permits when applicable, and unusual access are examples of factors that can change the final installed price.

Question 7

How long does installation take?

Accepted Answer

Timing depends on the documented scope, home setup, and installer availability. We confirm the expected timeline after the water review and written scope. A schedule is not promised before the home, equipment, and any testing requirements are understood.

Question 8

What maintenance is required?

Accepted Answer

Maintenance depends on the equipment and water conditions. RO filters need periodic replacement. Large and XL mixed-bed systems need a full media service roughly every two to three years. Dual-tank systems have a different service profile because the carbon tank backwashes automatically. Your written scope should identify what applies.

Question 9

Do you offer financing?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Financing is available through US Bank Merchant Financing, subject to approval and terms. Financing can be reviewed as part of the written scope. Approval, rates, payments, and final terms are determined by the lender, not by Windy City Water Pros.
